Our Statement of Purpose
Davidson alumni of all generations have been schooled in a common culture, anchored in the honor code and in the altruistic values and goals associated with liberal education that they internalized as students. For Davidson students, mutual confidence in one another’s words and commitments constitutes a common bond, one that graduates take with them into the world at large. While their commitments to principles of truth and morality continue to be valued in the larger Davidson community, society at large is confronted with daunting problems, including climate change, systemic racism, inaccessible health care, economic inequality, endangered democracy, and a volatile future that will require unprecedented capacities for adaptation and transformation.
Now more than ever, Davidson family members of all ages need to fulfill their calling as leaders and servants to strengthen communal bonds and to preserve our planet and society for future generations.
